Happy Birthday 35 Degrees!

23 October 2005, 08:54

35 Degrees is 3 years old today! It’s been a heady ride and I’ve no intention of shutting up anytime soon!

Anyone who’s ever run a blog, particularly those who leave their postings up for critique/commentary, know that it certainly has its ups and downs. Special mention must go to some of my faithful web-friends who have supported my humble blog through the years and who have made all the criticism and occasional flames all worthwhile…

Husband Without him I wouldn’t be inspired to write everyday and wouldn’t have a MiniMc to blog about.
Pinku Tokyo-based Brissie girl who never lets me down. Can also be relied on to provide rousing Beyonce renditions at karaoke.
Gleek Very clever and kind New Yorker who sent me the most gorgeous booties and hat for MiniMc and is a constant presence on my postings.
Nick Husband’s cousin who has some very. strange. ideas.
Nicole Ever-present Sydney-based chicky-babe.
Bogue Always has good advice about bringing up the baby and has the cutest baby ever.
Sussy Melbourne chameleon who is the most voracious blogger I’ve ever seen.
Megha India-based lass who I’m convinced thinks I’m totally nuts.
Hammy Never short of a few words. Mostly sarcastic.
Gunnella My Icelandic friend and fellow Hitler’s-birthday-child.
Ferit Incorrigible commenter.
Frangipani Tokyo-based comrade.
Andrea from Canada who is completely nuts but don’t we love her for it…

[Hope I haven’t forgotten anyone! If I have, please blame it on Pregnancy Brain. I blame everything else on it!]

Of course, part of the journey is about making new friends and I appreciate every single (positive) comment everyone has ever left. It’s always encouraging to know that people take a certain amount of comfort/enjoyment in your stories/experiences.

Here’s to many more years of unfettered verbal diarrhoea!

  1. Big Happy Birthday to 35degrees, hope the next three years are as fun and interesting, actually, I know they will be with the arrival of MiniMc. But, Wow, how honoured am I! Thanks for the very kind words, I am dead chuffed. But about the baby advice, truth be known, I am completely making it up as I go along and have no clue what I am doing…

But not to worry, you’ll be feeling exactly the same in about three months time!

(PS best piece of advice I got – do what you feel is right and don’t listen to anyone else, it’s your baby)

  2. haha, yes, nuts is the way to be. travel nuts, more so. truly, i believe that. so many people bury their dreams in childhood, but you guys chucked your jobs to fly away on a journey you’d always wanted to make. i deeply, deeply admire that, among other stuff about you, like, um…

kidding :) much laughter to the three of you and the dog…er..blog!

  4. husbands cousin with very.strange.ideas? Is that all I get? Oh pregnant wife of cousin, what are my strange ideas do tell.

Just doing my best to keep it real in the superficial supercilious world of cyberspace!

  5. Sarcasm is my best side.

Congrats on the three year mark. I love your sense of humour and engaging attitude. You bring to life all that you do with your writings.

    Many happy returns.

  9. Happy blog birthday, 35Degrees. Keep on blogging and happy snapping, Kinki. Cheers for the props, surprised to make your A-list :P

Did I ever tell you I first discovered your blog when I googled ‘shochu’ for work?! (yes, yes, believe what you want, but it was WORK and not bludging).

  10. 3 years and still going very strong. Wow! I remember back when it all started. It has always been great! Everything has changed, absolutely nothing’s changed. Keep on blogging and entertaining us for years and years to come. Cheers!!

  11. Well, I’ll agree, I’m not normal (rather be dead than normal), but I’d say I’m more of a misunderstood creative genius than strange! May well they mock what they don’t understand! Tortoise and the hare my friends, one day when my boat comes in I’ll be the one with the duck and the egg whilst the the clover blows amongst the blueberry trees and the world eats bananas, a cow in the hand spoils the broth, don’t count your monkeys before they bite the donkey. (alright, I’m a tiny bit strange, wankle rotary engine)

  13. Congratulations!
I’m chuffed to have been described as nuts! I’m also surprised to get a mention on your web-friends list, seeing how you’re well past the 200k hits mark!
Yours was the first blog I ever read and you inspired me to start my own (much less fascinating) blog.
Anyway, well done indeed. Have you considered naming the baby ‘35’?
    Andrea    Oct 25, 07:11 AM    #
  14. Sigh, Gleek, I-wish-this-were-wine-but-I’m-bloody-well-up-the-duff!!!

Andrea, I think a lot of people read my blog (not as many as in the golden years of Japan, but still a few) but there’s definitely a small(ish) community of people who always comment and give their support.

  17. Wisest is he who knows he does not know… (ok I’ll go now)
    nick    Oct 25, 03:06 PM    #
  18. oh, congrats too by the way, I remember when you first started 35 degrees I was in China. the earliest posts when you were struggling away in that little house and travelling Japan were the best, 35 degrees was creaming. you’ll have to change it now to 90 degrees (on your back with legs in the air, push push push! C’mon, just one more! WAAAAAAAAH!) cheers
    nick    Oct 25, 03:15 PM    #
  19. Yours was the first blog I discovered as well. Since then, whenever work or life is blah, I type 35degrees and off we go, sometimes as a jump spot into other Japan blogs too. Wish you luck and many many more entries. Check out the card at www.onbir.net.

  20. Ferit! That’s one cool card, you crazy cat, you. I’m feeling dead chuffed right about now…
