Broken promises

4 October 2004, 19:03

I did something yesterday I vowed I would never do. I can’t even use alcohol as an excuse. Temporary insanity? Very possibly. I gave $1.10 of my hard-earned cash to the pit of capitalism that is Telstra and voted on Australian Idol. Twice. For the same person. Sorry – idol.

Perhaps I was rendered goony-goo-goo by the sensational restaurant Husband took me to on Saturday night. We were celebrating The Bank making me permanent (happening in 3 weeks so little premature but will be good excuse for another celebration when it actually happens) so got thoroughly noshed up at Langtons Restaurant and Wine Bar in Flinders Lane.

Wife started with a sweet vodka martini, then Husband and Wife shared the entree of goats cheese and Mediterranean vegetable terrine topped with olive tapenade. Wife was seduced by the main course of sirloin with potato gallette whilst Husband chose the Duck and both were washed down with a Burnt Acre 2001 Shiraz.

To add insult to an expanding waistline we shared a divine chocolate coconut tiramisu with raspberry coulis and a liquer tokay, then tucked into the petit fours before stumbling out onto the street. Total indulgence. We ought to be really, really ashamed of ourselves. But oddly, Husband and Wife were not.

  2. Anthony. He was truly truly sensational.

  3. I thought he was tops as well, the best one of the night!

  4. But can we vote off the hosts of Australian Idol instead? That dark-haired guy is the epitome of lights on, nobody home. How fucking hard is it to look at the camera and speak at the same time. Obviously very... PS go Chanel!

  5. How dare you keep us in suspense for so long Kinki? I thought that your point was to tell us whom you voted for. Anthony was a good choice on the night. He had done nothing up until that stage. Marty could sing anything if he wanted to, Casey can sing anything and Courtney sings only one way well. Ricki-Lee gives everything for all of her songs. It is going to be quite interesting to see how the second series finishes up. Who do you want to win tho'?

  6. I must admit to a bit of a soft-spot for Anthony. Would be happy seeing him, Ricki-Lee, Casey or Courtney win. I used to like Chanel but reckon she's got a bit of the evil primadonna princess going on - not that that should effect who we think should win (oh but it does, but it does). Marty is too hit and miss, as is Hayley. Putting my legs on the line (not that anyone would want them anyway) I'd say Ricki-Lee will win and it will be between her and either Courtney or Anthony in the final.

  7. Casey. I cannot stand her. I don't think she can sing, I really don't. Why is she so popular? Marty too... he knows one sort of song, which is cool - he'd be great singing some Madness or Men Without Hats (Safety Dance!) but mainstream is beyond him. I'm upset that Daniel's gone, but he's not Idol stuff. I'd love to see him in a musical production though... Maybe playing Raoul in Phantom...

  8. ja, i see Daniel following a musical path rather than a mainstream one. he's got a bit of david campbell and hugh jackman about him. Whoever wins, I want Chanel to do an intimate soulful evening of gorgeous tunes at the Moulin Rouge in Sydney :) (and maybe even with Melbourne Jazz/Skat queen Julie O'Hara?!). and no, not THAT Moulin Rouge.
