Service briefing

You haven't had service 'til you've had Japanese service. Honestly, it rocks. They are formidable artistes of attention and charm.

This lot at Odakyu Depaato in Shinjuku, though, don't seem so sure about the whole deal. But I guess it's not every day they have a funny-lookin' foreigner poking a camera through the closed glass doors at 9.55.

Once I heard employees in a shop's backroom rehearsing their greetings, and reading out loud the shop's service rules... they sounded like a sect! I guess they usually do that stuff when clients aren't around, and it's better that way...

Perhaps that's the key to great service, but I don't think I'd like to do any of these service-related jobs in this country. Creepy!

...particularly cos you just *know* that their all saying, "we vow to put each bagel into 3 layers of plastic wrapping before popping it into one of our super-sized non-biodegradable bags."
